Surprise Marriage Proposal in Greenwich Village

Surprise proposals don’t leave room for error, so planning and flexibility are key. For this one in Greenwich Village, my client Hemant gave me two possible locations to scout just before the shoot. I did a quick on-the-ground check and chose the second spot—a quiet residential loop with picturesque buildings and minimal foot traffic. The shoot began casually, with me trailing them through a series of pre-planned stops for dinner and cocktails, keeping things low-key to preserve the surprise. When they finally reached the proposal spot, everything was perfectly timed—and she was completely surprised! Afterwards we took some posed couples photos throughout the the beautiful Village area as the sun was setting around us.

If you’re planning a proposal, having an experienced photographer involved from the start makes a huge difference. I help clients not just capture the moment, but plan for lighting, crowd control, angles, and timing—so you can focus on the ask, and I’ll make sure the moment looks as good as it feels.

Here are some of my favorite images from this shoot (click/tap to view full size and un-cropped):
