2nd Birthday Parade Party at Rockefeller Center, Manhattan
Normally these monthly roundups feature my five favorite shoots from that month, however I'm taking a break from shooting to recover from surgery for about 2 months, so I figured this time would be the perfect excuse to dig back through the archives from this year, and finally share some assignments that deserved a post at the time but never got one. And also maybe injecting an editorial opinion or two since I’m more or less stuck in bed for the time being. All that being said…here is the next one :)
This was definitely not your average second birthday party. The family of the birthday boy invited about 15 friends and relatives to the lobby of their apartment building and then set off on a little birthday parade through Manhattan. There were noisemakers, decorations, music, and lots of cheering as we walked and took the subway from one stop to the next on their itinerary. One of the specific requests was a photo of the birthday boy walking across the giant piano at FAO Schwarz, and we also happened to come across a street that had been closed for a street fair, which made for a pretty great group photo with everyone standing in the middle. The final stop was Dave & Buster’s for pizza, cake, and the end of the birthday festivities.
I actually got this job because I had photographed this little guy’s baptism previously; and it’s always such a nice feeling when a family calls me again for another milestone.

All images in this blog post were shot on a Nikon D850 using a 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 zoom lens, and all individually post-processed in Adobe Lightroom using custom-built presets.
