Nonprofit Event Coverage for 'Teens for Food Justice', Far Rockaway (Brooklyn)
Teens for Food Justice is a nonprofit tackling food insecurity and health inequity by building hydroponic farms inside NYC public schools—giving students the tools and knowledge to grow fresh produce and take ownership of local food access. I’ve had the opportunity to photograph several of their initiatives, and this most recent session celebrated the grand opening of a new farm at Brian Piccolo Middle School in Far Rockaway.
The event brought together students, educators, and local officials for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, speeches, and a first look at the indoor farm space. My goal was to capture both the formal and candid moments that tell the full story of the day—from proud faces and handshakes to the excitement of students stepping into their new growing environment.
As with many nonprofits, Teens for Food Justice operates on a tight budget, and I was happy to offer them a discounted rate to help support the work they’re doing. If you're part of a mission-driven organization and think professional photography is out of reach—don’t count yourself out. There are often flexible options available, and great images can go a long way in helping you share your impact and grow support.
